The First Bug of Windows 7 Finally Found - Windows 7 News

It is Gaffe Laurent who was discovered the newest bug. The detail explanation has been presented in the Full Disclosure mailing list. Right now, Microsoft is currently investigating the reported defects, which basically makes the system that exploited Windows 7 will crash. This is due to the defects in Server Message Block protocol (SMB) which form the backbone of the Windows file sharing. When it was triggered, the defects will cause endless loop that makes the computer can not be used.

This weakness is detected in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R.2. But so far, there had been no reports of attacks on this weakness. This weakness also does not lead to illegal remote access that can cause important information theft, or other malicious activity can be performed.

So, how to overcome this problem? One of the solution methods is to block TCP ports 135 to 139 and also port 445, which will stop the SMB traffic from the network.

Stoba Can End Notebook Explosion Cases

December 15th, 2009

The Case of Notebook Explosion due to the damage of its lithium battery which still happens these days, maybe will only become a memory.

Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan has developed Stoba — which will be in the positive and negative poles of the battery. So, when the battery temperature reaches 1300 Celsius, Stoba will change the form, from a porous material into a thin-blocker but also a solid layer, which will stop the reaction.

According to Alex Pang, the research team leader, who has developed this new material for more than 4 years, when the lithium-ion battery has a short interruption, it can quickly heat up, up to 5000 Celsius and then burned-out or explode. So, by adding the third compound that acts as a controller, that is Stoba, such a bad thing can be prevented.

It is reported that the battery makers in Taiwan are doing the test of this new product and they also has increased the manufacturing capacity of the number of cells that mixed with Stoba up to thousands quantities. If all of things are going to be as expected, they will be ready to make the first shipment in the first quarter of 2010.

Is the third compound integration into lithium-ion batteries will raise the price of the battery? According to Pang, Stoba would only add two to three percent of the lithium-ion batteries manufacturing cost. He is now trying to sell this technology to popular mobile phone and netbook vendors. Let’s hope he’s successful, because the more parties, who use it, there would be even more competitive price of the battery.

Easy Document Check at CompareMyDocs.com

December 15th, 2009

CompareMyDocs.com allows users to compare contents of two text files to know about their difference. The documents with format .doc and .docx, which are the output of Microsoft Word, and also the documents with .rtf format are compatible with it, but, properly, without much extra such as tables and images. If you want to and need to, you can check up to seven files simultaneously. The existing differences are marked in blue color for your convenience to see it.

This service is based on the API of the Nordic River main-online product, named as TextFlow “parallel word processor”, which is useful to observe the differences between several different versions of a document and incorporate them into a new document, so you can check it and export it to a new file. Even the CompareMyDocs.com interface, that still in beta version, is not different than the online test provided by TextFlow.

Are you interested in trying out this service because it seems quite useful for you? Please access this service through https://secure2.textflow.com/comparemydocs/.
